The main protagonist of the book, and a member of the Fleshies. He has no memory of his life before being a zombie but takes a keen interest in hoarding objects which he deems to be special. He categorizes Julie in this ‘special’ section and quickly falls for her. He is shown to be a romantic and has a profound interest in human qualities and life before the apocalypse.
Julie Grigio
The main love interest in the book. She is a very active and brave young woman, who lost a lot of her carefree nature after the apocalypse. She begins to see a different side to R after he saves her, and she quickly comes to realize all that she thought about zombies may not be true.
Perry Kelvin
He was Julie’s boyfriend. Even though he and Julie became distant due to his fervor to kill all the zombies, he still loved and cared for her, having been with her since high school. He gets attacked and his brain eaten by R, which is perhaps the reason why R feels a connection to Perrie’s memories.
