Vladimir Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

The Liberal Arts College Life

The liberal arts college symbolizes the absurdity of life. The reader notes that all old male professors in the institution are sexual predators. The male professors use sex as a weapon for better grades. Therefore, girls must cooperate to have sex with male lecturers to score good grades. Therefore, the institution signifies a rotten society. Instead of the old male professors guiding young generations on the significance of morals, they abuse them sexually.

The woman’s freedom

The unnamed narrator in the novel symbolizes a woman’s freedom. Despite being a woman, the narrator is an English Professor, signifying the awakening of women’s rights to education. In addition, the narrator’s husband does not restrict her whenever she wants to do anything. Since the narrator is in an open relationship with her husband, she starts another relationship with Vladimir knowing that her husband does not control her life.

The #MeToo Campaign

The #MeToo campaign symbolizes the end of sexual harassment against women. The students in the college are tired of their male lectures demanding sex from them. Therefore, the students organize protests to kick out the most notorious sexual marauder, the Head of the English Department. The #MetToo campaign is a wake-up call for women to come out strongly to shame men who harass them sexually.
