Tough justice

What an amazing judicial system is described in the book “True Grit”. If you kill someone, you will immediately be hanged on the gallows. If you steal something, you also will be put to death on the gallows. Of course, such a system would not go amiss in our modern society, but we have other laws. The main heroine Mattie Ross will go on a wild rampage for justice to exist as long as possible. She wants to punish her father’s killer and will do everything to catch Tom Chaney. Her decision is very fair and courageous. Mattie thinks that every killer should be punished and be responsible for his actions.

Family

Mattie is a family girl. Although the theme of the family is a secondary theme in the book, this is a good opportunity for readers to debate it after reading. The family is the dearest treasure for Mattie. She loses her treasure, when her father is killed. Mattie does not forget about him and does everything that her dad will find peace in heaven. Nevertheless, she has a mother and siblings, who support Mattie, despite their affective behavior after death of Franck Ross. The author hints at the fact that readers need to protect their family, because it is not known, when we will lose our darling people.

Crime

Bad guys, pistols, thieves, murderers and death – these are all things not exactly for children. All the crimes, which are described in this book, are a bad example for the younger generation. However, children can be briefed about how a little brave girl decides to bring to reason a bad man. The author uses these maneuvers to show that the crime has bad consequences – punishment or death. As Tom Chaney, Ned Pepper and his band of bandits are not afraid of death. They have nothing in common with other people except their human appearance. As we can understand, the crime concerns only the antagonists of this book.
