Towers of Midnight Irony

Towers of Midnight Irony

The absurdity of the blooming of trees

The central paradox throughout the text is that when Rand returns to Dragonmount, his presence makes trees happy and they blossom and bear fruits. Similarly, Rand's presence leads to the unveiling of new Darkfriends. Despite Rand doing these magic actions of enticing trees to bear fruits, Egwene does not trust him when he tells her that he intends to break the seals of Merrilor.

The satire of Morgase

Morgase is saved by Perrin accidentally, and the reader otherwise expects her to be thankful. However, during the case hearing against Perrin, Morgase finds him guilty of manslaughter and suggests he be detained for good. However, Galad suggests that Perrin should be held for a while before the final judgment is arrived at.

The irony of Graendal

Graendal is an ironic character because he fails in his mission of killing Perrin and instead leads to the killing of Masaana, whom it was supposed to save. Shaidar Haran decides to punish Graendal for failing to execute his assigned task. Consequently, the reader finds it contradictory that Haran is on the front line punishing Graendal, and he knows well that he was part of the plan to kill Manaasa.
