    Dramatic reading

    Kind of Activity:

    Dramatic reading (large groups with whole class as audience). This activity differs from the “reading aloud” activity in that the students are in the roles of actors rather than simply being readers.

    Objective:

    Portray character through inflection and gesture, develop skill in enunciation, evoke a courtroom atmosphere

    Structure:

    Students read part of chapter 17 aloud. The section should be read twice. Cast the loudest and more boisterous students first and the shy, quiet students last. Direct students to read only the dialogue and not the narrator’s words. Assess the first performance before reading it a second time.
