The Widow's Lament in Springtime

The Widow's Lament in Springtime Summary

The poem details the sadness of a grieving widow. She looks out onto her yard and describes the way in which the grass is not the same. She goes on to say that she and her husband have lived in the same spot for thirty-five years and proceeds to describe her blossoming plum tree and bushes. She also describes the grief that she feels when she looks at it. Finally, she mentions that her son told her about a tree of white flowers in a meadow. She states that if she went to see it, she would likely collapse at its base and sink into the marsh surrounding it.
