While some students may find Byatt's fairy-tale-like approach to story-telling challenging to understand or relate to, many students will likely find her symbolic and magical realistic approach to exploring difficult topics both accessible and eye-opening. You should be aware, however, that some students will have more personal and potentially upsetting experiences than others with family separation or unresolved trauma or grief; approach the material with deliberation and sensitivity.
