Why does Carmel include the newspaper article about the accident in Daniel's scrapbook? (Chapter 11, last page).
I'm sort of confused by this

I'm not sure why the article about the accident is singled out, except for the fact that the accident plays such a large part in the relationships between the novel's characters. I believe that the article is his grandmother's scrapbooks also shows Tom that history has a place in all of our lives... good or bad.
