Juan García Madero
He is a 17-year old teenage poet and also the main protagonist of the book. He becomes involved with the Visceral Realists, a gang of sorts but one that revolves around expressing poetry. He drops out of university to go traveling with them and live his poetry.
Ulises Lima
An original founding member of the Visceral Realists. People tend to have a poor opinion of him and it is even claimed his actions leave a “bitter taste” in the mouths’ of those he comes into contact with. He is also an elitist.
