The Room Where It Happened Background

The release of John Bolton's The Room Where it Happened (2020) - the former National Security Advisor to President Trump for the better part of a year - was marred by legal threats and media attention. Not only did the Trump administration sue to stop the publication of the book, claiming that it divulged top secret information, President Trump himself commented on Bolton's book. In a Tweet, he wrote that "Bolton’s book, which is getting terrible reviews, is a compilation of lies and made up stories, all intended to make me look bad. Many of the ridiculous statements he attributes to me were never made, pure fiction. Just trying to get even for firing him like the sick puppy he is!"

Nevertheless, The Room Where it Happened is Bolton's memoir which follows his time as National Security Advisor for President Trump from 2018 to early 2019. In the book, he divulges key information about Trump's thoughts and feelings about certain situations - many of which were startling and violent. Ultimately, though the main argument in the book is that President Trump is not fit to be President of the United States because, in Bolton's mind, he is stupid, unprepared, and a criminal.
