The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress Irony

The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress Irony

The new government

Professor Bernardo, Mannie, Wyoh, and Mike successfully lead a revolution of lunar independence. The people in Lunar are happy and expectant that their life will change for the better. Paradoxically, the new government is not based on any sound political ideology. Therefore, the new government collapses, forcing Mannie, Prof and Wyoh to vanish from public life while Mike becomes a computer again.

The satire of men

The rebellion in the colony is comprised of men and women who are determined to liberate themselves from Erath. Satirically, the men in the rebellion think that a woman's contribution can do little to aid them in achieving their objective. For instance, Wyoming is a vital player in the revolution, and she makes significant decisions that can help the rebellion defeat Earth. However, the men are misogynistic and disregard Wyoming's opinions because she is a woman.

The irony of the earth officials

The Earth has lost control of its colony in the Moon after the rebels declared Lunar independence. When Prof and Mannie come as diplomats, they face Earth officials to demand recognition. Satirically, the Earth officials request to bribe Prof and Mannie to make important leaders on Earth on the condition that they denounce Lunar’s independence. Prof and Mannie refuse the offer, which leads to their arrest. Fortunately, they are freed by Stuart, and all of them proceed to the Moon.
