The Lion of Mars Irony

The Lion of Mars Irony

Irony of Snoring

Albie was known for snoring so loudly that one would not have any peace sleeping next to him. Trey even switched rooms to escape him. Bell was always complaining and waking Albie up to stop him from snoring. Ironically, when Bell gets hurt during their adventure with the rover it is Albie’s snoring that makes him sleep. It is funny that the same snoring that would keep him up now lulls him to sleep. He sleeps comfortably for the first time appreciating Albie’s snoring which has always been a bother to him.

The Irony of the Emergency Drills

Sai being so strict and uptight always reminded them to be alert and watch out, yet he is one of the people trapped in the generator room. It was expected that he would know better and take necessary precautions more than anyone else. He was even the one that kept a list of things that were broken and needed fixing. He should have known that the air scrubber needed mending and should have allocated that duty to one of them. While everyone was rushing to the generator room thinking it was Sai that was once again summoning them, they are shocked to find it is him that needs their help. The situation changed very fast with the protected being the protector which is ironic.

The Irony of Seeking help from People on Earth

The children had created an attitude about the French people and people on earth as scary and unfriendly from their little encounter with them. They did not expect them to be nice and helpful when the virus attacked them. Ironically, the colonies came together to help them fight the virus and find better ways to survive on Mars. They never expected them to be that involving and caring for others.

The Irony of Trey’s Behavior

Trey was older than Bell by three years yet always complained whenever Bell was given some preferences over him. It was expected that he would understand that Bell was the youngest and therefore would be given more privileges. He whines when Bell is exempted from the harvest exercise despite Bell still recovering from his injuries. He refuses to go visit Bell claiming that they are getting punished, yet Bell is not receiving any punishment. This is ironic because it is Trey and Vera that convinced Bell to go with them in the first place. Trey’s behavior is very ironic as he proves to be disillusioned and unreasonable in most situations without considering the obvious reasons such as age. He gets mad when Albie is chosen by Sai as his apprentice, yet Albie is older than him and therefore more experienced and viable for the position. It is only expected that Albie would be considered first since he is older than Trey.

The Irony of living on Mars

They left the earth to come to settle on Mars, yet they are still relying on being supplied with food and other things from the earth. One would have expected that their coming to Mars was well figured out and they would have everything they need with them. With no return ticket to earth, their situation is tough which makes one question why you would want to go to Mars in the first place. They should have just stayed on earth if they were to still depend on the earth for survival supplements. They keep eating food made from algae in all their meals because the surplus from the earth has not yet arrived. It is only expected that one relocates to places where one would be self-sufficient and with greener pastures but not in this case.
