The Fugitive
The unnamed narrator of The Invention of Morel, the Fugitive is a paranoid, mentally unstable man who is hiding on a deserted island. The events in the novel are described from his perspective in a hallucinogenic haze, making it hard for the reader to tell whether his point of view is the true one.
Faustine
Faustine is the beautiful woman who the Fugitive sees always watching the sunset. She is the first person who he decides to approach; however, she does not notice his presence, nor do any of the other people he sees on the island. The Fugitive is implied to harbor feelings for her.
Morel
Morel is the titular character of the novel, however not the narrator. He is a scientist who is noted interacting with Faustine. He claims to have invented a futuristic device that will allow him to fabricate and re-enact reality.
