    Whose points of view are represented in these chapters? Why does Greene start with Wilson? Does this indicate he will be a minor or major character? Who is the protagonist?

    This will involve discussion of POV and breaking down the various characters' importance. There may be no "right" answer, but it is the beginning of the students' thinking about character in the novel. Why does Greene choose to start with Wilson and Harris' looking at Scobie, rather than talking to him? How does Scobie's POV reflect his character? Students can make a list of words or details to describe each POV and draw conclusion from the textual evidence.
