Leonardo DiCaprio

The titular character is played by Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the most famous Hollywood actors of the 1990s and 2000s. He is best known for his work in films such as What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, The Basketball Diaries, Romeo + Juliet, Titanic, Catch Me If You Can, Blood Diamond, The Departed, Inception, Revolutionary Road, The Aviator, Django Unchained, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Revenant, for which he won an Academy Award in 2015.

The Great Gatsby marks DiCaprio's second collaboration with Baz Luhrmann, having first worked with the director on the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet, a modern adaptation of the famous Shakespeare play. He is also a frequent collaborator of Martin Scorsese, having worked with him on the films Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and the upcoming biopic of Theodore Roosevelt, Roosevelt.

Tobey Maguire

Tobey Maguire is perhaps most widely known for having played Spiderman in a film version of the comic book series. He has also appeared in a number of films, having started out as a child actor, and then matured into adult roles. His best known films include The Ice Storm, Pleasantville, The Cider House Rules, Wonder Boys, Seabiscuit, Brothers, and The Great Gatsby. Interestingly enough McGuire became a good friend of Leonardo DiCaprio when they were both child actors auditioning for the same roles early on in their careers. The actors have appeared together in This Boy's Life, Don's Plum, and The Great Gatsby.

Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan was cast as the iconic Daisy Buchanan after Baz Luhrmann had auditioned a number of prominent Hollywood actresses. Prior to playing Daisy, Mulligan appeared in a number of successful stage plays and films. She made her film debut in an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, and her Broadway debut in a production of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull. For her performance in An Education, Mulligan received a slew of award nominations (Golden Globe, Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award), and won the BAFTA for Best Lead Actress in a film. She was then nominated for her onstage work in David Hare's Broadway play Skylight. Her other films include Brothers, Public Enemies, Never Let Me Go, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Drive, Shame, Inside Llewyn Davis, Far From the Madding Crowd, and the upcoming Wildlife, set for release in 2018.

Joel Edgerton

Joel Edgerton is an Australian actor. He is known for his work in the films Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty, Animal Kingdom, and most recently, Loving, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. He is also a writer and director, and in 2015 wrote, directed and produced the psychological horror film, The Gift.

Jason Clarke

A film and television actor, Clarke is best known for his work in the Australian series, Brotherhood. He has also appeared in the films Public Enemies (with co-star Carey Mulligan), Zero Dark Thirty (with co-star Joel Edgerton), and Everest (with co-star Elizabeth Debickie).
