Ruby
Ruby is the main protagonist. She is a girl who gets into other people's heads and sees their thoughts, erases them, and manipulates them, which makes her an Orange. She manages to escape the camp where they held the kids with powers but is struck with other troubles on the outside world. All the while she is facing an inner struggle: she is not accepting of her powers and thinks that they make her a monster.
Claire
Claire is a doctor and a part of the Children's League. She is the one who gets Ruby out of Thurmond with a promise of a better life outside. Ruby soon finds out the true motives of Children's League which is using the kids to their advantage, they do not care about their future. Even though Ruby escapes her at the end Claire manages to force her to stay. Claire seems to have a weird fascination and obsession with Ruby's power.
Liam
Liam is Ruby's love interest. He is a Blue and he led the escape of many of children out of the camp where he was kept. Many children died as well and that keeps hunting him. He is over-protective of Zu, being a parent-like figure to her. There is an enormous bounty on his head as he managed to escape several times.
Chubs
Chubs is Liam's friend who seems cold and suspicious of Ruby at first, but Ruby soon finds out that he has a warm and artistic soul under the cold and sarcasm filled facade. One of the reasons that Ruby stays with the Children's League at the end is to protect Chubs. He's been shot and badly wounded and the Children's League has him.
