Daniel Handler is an American writer who goes under the pen name Lemony Snicket. “A Series of Unfortunate Events” is a series of several children-novels following the three siblings who became orphaned and have to struggle to survive in a world that doesn’t work in their favor. Lemony Snicket is also an active character in the novels and the one who narrates the siblings’ story.
“The Bad Beginning” is the first novel in the collection that introduces the three siblings, Violet, Klaus and Sunny. They receive sudden news of their parents’ passing in a fire that destroyed their entire home. The siblings are found a new home with their distant relative, Count Olaf, who hates them and only agrees because of their inheritance.
The collection of novels was, after its tremendous popularity, transferred to screen, including a movie from 2004 and a TV series from 2017.
