Chapter 32 - Elementary Particles - Search and Learn - Page 946: 1

Answer

See work below.

Work Step by Step

a. The two major classes of particles that comprise matter are quarks and leptons. b. Quark types are: up, down, strange, charm, bottom, and top. Lepton types are electron, muon, tau, electron neutrino, muon neutrino, and tau neutrino. c. The 4 known fundamental forces of nature are gravity, the electromagnetic force, the weak nuclear force, and the strong nuclear force. d. The gravitational force is carried by gravitons. The electromagnetic force is carried by photons. The weak nuclear force is carried by $W^+, W^-$, and $Z^o$ particles. The strong nuclear force is carried by gluons. Of the 4 forces, the gravitational force is by far the weakest.
