Chapter 27 - Early Quantum Theory and Models of the Atom - Questions - Page 797: 8

Answer

Electrons leaving the cesium surface have a higher maximum kinetic energy.

Work Step by Step

See equation 27-5a. An incident photon has energy, hf. Some of this energy (measured by the work function) ejects the electron from the material, and the rest gives the ejected electron some kinetic energy. Cesium has the lower work function so its ejected electrons have more KE.
