Chapter 24 - The Wave Nature of Light - Misconceptual Questions - Page 707: 9

Answer

Choice C.

Work Step by Step

Diffraction refers to the bending of waves around corners or obstacles. It is most apparent when the size of the obstacle is about the size of the wavelength. The sound waves in a person’s voice have wavelengths about the same size as the doorway. These are much larger than the wavelengths in visible light. The diffraction of light waves through the doorway is not apparent because of their very short wavelength.
