Chapter 29 - The Magnetic Field - Stop to Think 29.2 - Page 800: 1

Answer

Out of the page.

Work Step by Step

If we were to hold this rod with our right hand using the right-hand rule, we would have it so that our thumb on our right hand points in the direction of the electric current. That being said, our right hand would be wrapped around the rod so that if the tip of our fingers were to go through point P, they would be pointing right at us. Thus, the direction of the magnetic field is out of the page and towards us.
