Chapter 5 - Force and Motion-I - Questions - Page 115: 4a

Answer

Functions 1 and 3 are possible functions for the rock's position.

Work Step by Step

The rock is traveling in the positive direction, therefore the functions must have X be positive while t>0. Both functions 1 and 3 have this with every value of time over 0. Function 2, however, does not follow the rule, therefore can not possibly be the function that represents the rock.
