Please see Figure 9.5 on page 164. Intensity scales as the inverse square of the distance. For a planet half as far as Earth is from the sun, the light intensity would be four times greater than it is on Earth. For a planet ten times farther away than Earth is now, approximately the location of Saturn, the light intensity would be 1/100 as much as it is on Earth.
