Rough pages provide diffuse reflection (page 523 and Figure 28.10). Such pages do not suffer from glare, and can easily be viewed from many angles. Pages with a glossy surface (or computer tablets) are more difficult to read outdoors and in locations where specular reflections (page 521) from bright light sources could dominate what the reader is trying to see.
