Launching the radioactive waste straight backward (opposite to the Earth's tangential velocity around the sun) at the same speed at which the Earth is orbiting the sun ensures that the waste's tangential speed relative to the sun is zero. It would then fall vertically "downward", i.e., straight into the sun.
