If the displacement of an object is 300m north, you can infer that the distance traveled by the object is at least 300m.

The object may have traveled a farther distance if it didn't travel in a straight line, or if it traveled another direction then switched directions, but the bare minimum distance it could have traveled is still 300m because that is the object's final displacement from its starting point.
