With the blade mounted, the kinetic rotational energy is much greater than when the blade is not mounted. We know that friction is the reason that the blade stops moving. The friction barely changes with the blade mounted. Thus, since the kinetic rotational energy is much higher with the blade, it will take much longer for all of that energy to dissipate.
