Earth's ocean can be defined as an open ocean that can be divided into 3 sections according to its depth (Not surface area). The upper layer recieves the most sunlight and more photosynthetic life occurs here. The middle layer still has sunlight but not as much as the upper layer. Lastly, the bottom layer can be considered a dead zone. Not much life exists here because there is little to no sunlight.
