Chapter 11 - Agriculture, Aquaculture, and the Environment - Critical Thinking Issue - Page 255: 1

Answer

Climate change is caused by global warming. And because of the increased fluctuation in precipitation during the growing season, and especially in soils with limited water holding capacity, these climate changes will raise atmospheric water demand by crops and increase the potential for constraints in the soil water supply in the 21st century.

Work Step by Step

Due to global warming, the temperature of the earth is increasing day by day which leads to different phenomena and one of the major ones is climate change. As a result of climate change, water shortage is predicted to worsen. Temperatures are expected to rise around the world as a result. Droughts are becoming more frequent and severe, reducing agricultural output, while rising temperatures increase crop water demand. Because of the increased fluctuation in precipitation during the growing season, and especially in soils with limited water holding capacity, these climate changes will raise atmospheric water demand by crops and increase the potential for constraints in the soil water supply.
