Chapter 4 - Section 4.4 - Naming Igneous Rocks - Concept Checks - Page 122: 2

Answer

Granite and rhyolite are different in texture. They are similar in the way of mineral composition.

Work Step by Step

Granite has coarse-grained Phaneritic texture while Rhyolite has fine-grained Aphanitic texture. Granite and Rhyolite are similar in the way of mineral composition because both rocks are made up of similar dominant minerals and accessory minerals. Quartz and Potassium feldspar are the dominant minerals in the Granite and Rhyolite. Plagioclase feldspar, Amphibole, Muscovite and Biotite are the accessory minerals in the Granite and Rhyolite. So, they are texturally different but mineralogically same.
