Chapter 3 - Matter and Energy - Exercises - Questions - Page 86: 7

Answer

Gases have indefinite shape and volume.

Work Step by Step

They spread out to fill and take the shape of their container. At the molecular level, their atoms or molecules are far more spread out than those of solids and liquids. This means that their molecules have much more kinetic energy than those of the other phases. The large space between molecules means that gases are highly compressible.
