Chapter 10 - Chemical Bonding - Exercises - Questions - Page 349: 6

Answer

Lone pair of valence electrons are the electrons which are not shared with another atom and is sometimes called a non-bonding pair. Lone pairs are found in the outermost electron shell of atoms.A bonding pair of electrons are a pair that participate in a covalent bond with another atom. Each covalent bond requires at least two electrons which are shared by the two atoms participating in the bonds.

Work Step by Step

At first we must have the knowledge of Bond pair and Lone pair. Bond pair: A bond pair is created by due to sharing of electrons by the two atoms. Lone pair: A lone pair is created due to the absence of empty orbitals.
