Chapter 15 Liquids and Solids - Problems - Page 563: 15

Answer

$HF$ and $CH_3OH$ can form hydrogen bond

Work Step by Step

Molecules that have hydrogen bond to high electronegative ion such as $F$ or $O$, can form $H$ bonding with other molecules. To determine which molecules can form hydrogen bonds, we look for: - A hydrogen atom covalently bonded to a highly electronegative atom (N, O, or F). - A lone pair on a nearby electronegative atom to accept the hydrogen bond. $HF$ and $CH_3OH$ can form hydrogen bonds.
