To give substituent group the smallest number, counting is done from the right-hand side. There are two methyl groups present, one on carbon number 2 and the other on carbon number 4. Hence it is written as 2,4-dimethyl. 3. Also, an ethyl group is present on carbon number 4. So its written as 4-ethyl. 4. While naming the compound, Substituent Groups are written in alphabetical order, thus, 4-ethyl, 2,4-dimethyldecane.
