Answer

Ozone is present in stratosphere, where it blocks harmful UV radiations from reaching the surface of earth. However, Ozone molecule can be broken down to O2 molecule by some gases such as Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). These gases initiate a chain reaction in which one CFC can destroy up to 100,000 Ozone molecules, which leads to Ozone depletion. A simplified reaction equation is as follows: $2O_{3} → 3O_{2}$ (in the presence of a CFC)
