Chapter 7 - Molecular Structures - Questions for Review and Thought - Topical Questions - Page 325a: 14a

Answer

The answer is below.

Work Step by Step

In order to draw a lewis dot structure, first find out the number of valence electrons for each atom. Next, using bonds, keep adding bonds until the number of valence electrons for each atom is 8. Note, in some cases, we have to have atoms with more than 8 valence electrons, for sometimes there is no possible way to make the lewis dot structure without doing so. Also, to find the molecular shape and electron geoemtry, it is necessary to memorize the list of these geometries, which are always based on the central atom of the molecule. Electron geometry: Tetrahedral Molecular geometry: Trigonal Pyramidal
