Chapter 8 - Exercises - Page 375: 8

Answer

Coulomb’s law states that potential energy of two charged particles is directly proportional to the product of their charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. For like charges, the force is positive and decreases as the charges move apart. For opposite charges, force is negative and increases as the charges come near. Moreover, magnitude of the energy increases with mass of the particles.
