When the marble is dropped into a beaker of water, it sinks because the marble is more dense than the water. Another way to say this is that if you had an equal mass of the water and the marble, the marble's volume would be much smaller. Since density is mass divided by volume, the marble would have a greater density since the volume is smaller for an equal unit of mass.
