When Mg is burnt, it reacts with oxygen (O2) to form magnesium oxide (MgO) 2) We need to convert grams into mol in order to calculate the yield. Looking at the periodic table will tell us the molecular mass of Mg. According to the chemical equation we've just created, 1 mol of Mg will yield 1 mol of MgO. Convert mol of MgO into grams will tell us how much MgO created.
