Chapter 17 - Genomes - 17.3 - Eukaryotic Genomes Contain Many Types of Sequences - 17.3 Recap - Learning Outcomes - Page 373: 4

Answer

Moderately repetitive sequences can sometimes be repeated up to a thousand times in the eukaryotic genome. These sequences consist of genes that are transcribed to produce tRNAs and rRNAs. The cell constantly synthesizes tRNAs and rRNAs, but single copies of the tRNA and rRNA genes are not enough to supply these molecules needed by most cells. Because of this, the genome maintains many copies of these genes to maximize transcription efficiency.
