The 3PG formed by rubisco’s oxygenase activity is incorporated in the Calvin cycle, but the phosphoglycolate is left out. A metabolic pathway characteristic of plants can recover some of the carbon in phosphoglycolate. This phosphoglycolate is hydrolyzed to glycolate to complete the next step of the pathway.
