Once an egg is fertilized, it travels through the oviduct and implants in the wall of the uterus. Once implanted, the fertilized egg will remain in the uterus. There, the egg grows and develops. This period of growth and development is called gestation, or pregnancy. Once human gestation is complete, the baby is ready to be born.
