Because the best way to understand the cancer genes is to study the normal tissue in addition to the cancerous tissue to better understand why one tissue is cancerous and another is not. By studying the healthy tissue, we'll see what genes were switched off , but were turned on in the cancerous tissue to be able to obtain a complete understanding of the gene expression in cancerous tissues.
