Passive transport includes diffusion, facilitated diffusion, and osmosis because each of these processes happen naturally when molecules move from high to low concentrations. Active transport is when molecules move from low to high concentrations. Because this process is unnatural the cell will be required to expend energy to make it happen. This energy source is ATP (made from respiration).
