Chapter 10, Cell Growth and Division - 10.3 - Regulating the Cell Cycle - Analyzing Data - Page 288: 2

Answer

Abnormal cells that do not die but continue to grow and divide cause a tumour

Work Step by Step

When cells grow and divide more than they should or do not die when they should, an abnormal mass of tissue arises. Tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) (cancer). Benign tumors can grow to be quite large, but they do not spread to surrounding tissues or other sections of the body.
