Chapter 29 - Protists - Review Questions - Synthesize - Page 587: 1

Answer

A morphological species concept would place together groups which are not separated by DNA data, such as all of the algae (brown algae are now seen as distinct from the red and green algae taken as close relatives) or all of the amoebae, which, again, are now seen in more than one distinct group.

Work Step by Step

What this question and answer show are the power of DNA data to help show taxonomic connections as well as the need to not rely simply rely on morphology, which could be misleadingly derived from convergent evolution.
