Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, whereas adult stem cells (such as those in bone marrow) are multipotent.

Work Step by Step

Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent as they must eventually develop into all possible cell types within the body. Pluripotent stem cells have the potential to differentiate into any other cell type. Other stem cells in an adult body are multipotent, meaning they have targeted development and can only develop into a limited set of cell types. Bone marrow stem cells specifically are known to differentiate into bone or blood cells.
