Depletion of aquifers means that, without a change in the rate of water use, aquifers will continue to drain, exacerbating the problems associated with it, such as subsidence, eventually leaving no water for future irrigation. This could be avoided by making irrigation more efficient and by using crops and/or farming techniques which are more water-use efficient.
