Chapter 3 - The Cellular Level of Organization - Checkpoint - Page 73: 15

Answer

Exocytosis and endocytosis are similar in the following ways: Both sets of processes are involved in active cellular transport, in both cases energy is used to power the activities, and in both sets of processes membrane-bound vesicles are the transport vehicles or carriers. At the end ,the vesicle membranes fuse with the plasma membrane for both exo- and endo- cytosis. However, where exocytosis moves substances out of the cell, the set of endocytotic processes - phagocytosis, receptor-mediated endocytosis and bulk-phase endocytosis - moves substances into the cell.

Work Step by Step

Exocytosis is important in removal of waste as well as in cell division, movement of neurotransmitters, and hormones.
