Answer

Parametric tests are grounded on parameters. They require a population that follows a specific distribution. Non parametric tests are procedures for drawing inference and are not based on parameters. They do not involve the population that follows a precise type of distribution. In case of independent sample and dependent sample t-test, the data should be obtained from a normal population but in case of sign test and Wilcoxon signed-ranks test, the population need not be normal. The ANOVA test requires that the population variance should be equal but in case of Kruskal–Wallis test, it can be used even if the condition of similar variance is not satisfied.
